After what seemed like a few hours later, a blurry figure was looking at me and a something freezing was on my forehead. I figured that it was Ethan staring at me from above and he had placed an icepack on my face. But why? Now I remember. My eyes widened as I realized what had happened before I blacked out. My face warmed as the fiery heat of my fury grew.
“Ethan! Where were you! You said you’d never leave!” I yelled, disappointed at Ethan. He was usually pretty good at keeping promises.
“What are you talking about, Sara? I was here all morning,” He said, a truly innocent expression on his face, “I was just in the other bathroom, Silly.”
And that’s when it hit me. I had lost my sanity. “Oh,” I replied softly thinking me so foolish.
I took the icepack off my forehead and lifted my knees to my chest, Bella-Swan-Style, rocking back and forth on my butt in the corner of Ethan’s couch.
“What’s going on, Sara?” Ethan asked, worried and obviously confused.
I stared into space, smiling, laughing lightly to myself, “Oh, nothing, Ethan… I just thought you left this morning,” I said, still laughing. I continued giggling but it morphed to a choked sob and my smile faded from my face, “I thought…” My voice trailed off…
“Oh, Sara,” he said, bringing his body close to mine, forcing me to release myself from my position, “I would never.”
My tear-filled blurry eyes met his comforting ones as did our lips. It was the second time that Ethan had assured to me that he’d be there. The second time… that he had assured me that he cared. Time seemed to never pass as the anxiety built between the two of us. And if there were ever a time where sparks ever flew in New York that wasn’t caused by a fire, it’d be now.
He let go on me and we re-postured ourselves to normal sitting positions. I smiled lightly.
“I know,” my voice trailed off softly.
He looked confused at the statement. “You know what?”
“I know... that you would stay with me...” I told him.
“Always, Sara”
My smile reached ear to ear at those two simple words. I couldn’t help but hold his face in my palms, leaning toward his face. Our lips connected again, caught in the precious moments that were our lives. It was several minutes before we realized the window was open and a very obese man with a 5 o’ clock shadow decided to ruin the tense situation between Ethan and I.
“Get a room, Reland!” he laughed, amused. I turned to tell him to knock it off, but Ethan had twisted the blinds shut before I could. We smiled at each other and laughed. Coming at me, he came to tackle me onto the couch in a hugging way and we lay beside each other, simply enjoying each others’ company. I swept Ethan’s honey colored hair from his eyes and I giggled in his arms.
My watch beeped 12:00 and it took both of us by surprise. Ethan got up, taking me with him and we looked around.
“Hungry?” he asked, playfully. “My friend brought me bagels!”
“Who? Alex?” I asked.
“Yeah, he’s such a good guy.”
We sat on the carpet floor, Indian style and we chomped down on our bagels, facing each other, just staring.
I was just simply admiring Ethan when his expression changed to a more solemn face. “Sara, I couldn’t help but worry as your best friend how we could possibly stay in this apartment forever. We’ve got to get out sometime.”
“Ethan, but Charlie, he’ll always be out there-“
“And we’ll always be in here,” Ethan interrupted, “We’ll always be stranded in this room, eating whatever my friends bring over”
“Ethan-“
